Visit an Eye Doctor If You Notice a Vision Change

Eye DoctorAs a local eye doctor, we recommend that patients visit our clinic at the first sign of a vision change. Many people assume that vision becoming blurry or seeing spots over time is just normal. While age can play a factor in altering one’s vision, drastic changes are a sign that something is wrong. Getting eye examinations at least once a year is the best way to ensure that this potential vision change is not indicative of a serious problem like glaucoma or macular degeneration.

There is no point to continue suffering blurry vision, especially when already wearing a corrective device. This is simply a waste of time when patients can be wearing the correct prescription and therefore see clearly.

Signs that it is time to visit an eye doctor

The concept of changing vision can be rather ambiguous and vague. While it is obvious if a person can no longer read signs or is struggling to read a book, there are other signs of vision change that are less certain. Here is a list of possible signs that patients need to watch out for.

  • Seeing spots
  • Halos surrounding lights during the day or at night
  • Eye pain or discomfort
  • Regular stinging or terrible dryness that makes it difficult to open eyes or see
  • Vision changes between day and night
  • Objects appearing blurry that did not use to
  • Increased eye pressure
  • Decrease in peripheral vision

Any of these signs independently or together, warrant scheduling an appointment with our office.

Eye conditions

When it comes to vision, no eye conditions are minor because they all influence one of the most precious gifts – the gift of sight. This is something that most people take for granted until it is gone. However, the ability to see is something that influences every aspect of life on a daily basis. Not having clear vision is one thing, but having no vision at all is another.

Many eye conditions can lead to blindness so it is critical to watch the signs and visit our optometrist office to prevent the conditions from worsening. As with many conditions and diseases, early detection and intervention is critical.
